We gather this first week of hurricane season, aware that there are storms in life; some of them are named and others are deeply private and don’t involve wind or rain. No matter what storm we face, Jesus is in the boat with us! Join us for an hour of sung prayer as we invite Jesus to calm the storms of our lives. And just in case we do have named storms this year, we will be handing out hurricane information from Pinellas County.
Jesus promised that he would send the Holy Spirit to bring us peace. Not peace that has winners and losers, but God’s peace which is built on justice, mutual care, kindness, mercy and love. In our sung contemplative prayer tonight, we invite the Holy Spirt to fill our hearts and bring God’s peace to us and the world.
We gather around an image of the earth and pray for the needs of the world. We pray for peace and justice, for unity and compassion. We pray for the earth that we will be good stewards of the gifts God has given us to sustain and nurture life.
“Be still and know that I am God” – Psalm 46:10. The psalmist invites us to quiet our hearts and seek God’s presence. However, the Hebrew text for “be still” doesn’t mean silence, it means to desist, to go limp, to stop warring. The psalmist is inviting us to lay down the warring and conflict in our heart and to recognize God’s presence, God’s sovereignty over our lives. Tonight we will gather for sung contemplative prayer inviting God to make God’s presence knows to our anxious hearts.
Why is it so hard for us to accept God’s love, to believe that God is love? Why is it so hard to trust that God loves us, just as we are? Tonight in the quiet of sung contemplative prayer, we will open our hearts and invite God to reveal God’s heart to us.

God desires our wholeness and healing. We all have places of woundedness. We are all in need of God’s healing so that we don’t carry our wounds into the world. Tonight we will hear God’s word and have an opportunity for individual prayer for healing with our pastors. We will conclude at the Lord’s Table where we are invited to encounter the presence of Jesus in bread and wine.
